about

Hey, friends. Here is SE. Third song and albeit intense, it’s the sweetest of any on the album. That means sharing about it is particularly vulnerable. And in part why it was more difficult to write something to send off with its release. It’s an homage to love, camaraderie and ‘now now now now now.’

Speaking of vulnerability, I sometimes have a wave of fear that these entries come off as pretentious or unwelcome but I can’t help but want to confide. If anything, it’s scary as h3!! to publish them. I’ll take a load off by saying it’s mostly for me to reflect on why this stuff matters to me and then, it’s a way to get over my fear of opening up to those who want to know. If you enjoy these, I am glad. If not, you are probably not reading this so I will stop now and move on.

The title is literal in terms of SE Portland, where I moved after NYC. I placed much heart and intention in moving to this neighborhood. I fell in love with its parks and its pace. I received love along the way that it gifted through friendships, experiences and much of the unexpected. I’ve run what seems infinite miles around Laurelhurst Park, reflecting and unwinding from the past, breathing through the present and weaving dreams for the future. Through this I began to better understand what it means to love and trust and be patient with myself, with others and with time. And that it takes effort each day.

Like others, I’ve let go of many things and taken risks over and over to reach my new home. It has all been in an effort to build again, in a lasting way, a life to treasure. Ultimately, I know it is meant to be a journey to better understand my capacity to give and receive love. I learn from many who have done or are doing the same and you continue to inspire.

I treasure the past and yearn to relinquish patterns that do not serve. What good to those and gifts before me if preoccupied with the unseen? I want most to embrace and see what is and greet it in love.

Native American flute shows across the album and some of the most prominent is in this song. Its primal sound intertwines with vocal operatics and became an experiment with the idea of emotional urge and its compatibility or lack thereof with survival and most importantly, with joy.

lyrics

SE

Hi...
Along the way
Along the way
See your face
Hold your hand
And smile
Into your eyes
Hi...

Here to see now now now now now
Here to sing now now now now now
Here to see now now now now now
Here to sing now now now now now
Embrace what’s seen now now now now now
I believe now now now now now

On such days
[It] Never goes dark
On such nights
[We] Never need light...

Here to see, now now now now now
Here to sing, now now now now now
Embrace what’s seen, now now now now now
I believe, now now now now now

Hi...
See your face
Hold your hand
And smile
Into your eyes
Hi...
